Company Overview

Scholarcy believes that reading smarter is the key to understanding more. The company was founded in 2018 by a Ph.D. student who struggled to find a tool that could provide a quick snapshot of every paper on their computer. Like most researchers, he couldn't face reading every paper but the abstract or introduction wasn't enough to go on. He had to skim-read as much as possible and scribble notes, which often proved to be inadequate. As a result, he developed Scholarcy to provide context, highlight key sections of a paper, and let users save or export their summaries for later use. Scholarcy's mission is to make everyday research faster and more productive.

The company works with universities, publishers, and non-profit organizations to help researchers digest long documents quickly and easily. Scholarcy offers more than just an abstract or introduction, providing users a comprehensive summary of the paper. They are continuously adding new features and improvements to their tool, keeping pace with evolving technologies and user feedback. Their easy-to-use interface has made it the favorite of many researchers and their work has been recognized widely.

Scholarcy is revolutionizing the way researchers approach the reading and digesting of complex scientific papers. Its tool is user-friendly, comprehensive, and easy to navigate, providing insights that users might have otherwise missed. Scholarcy's effectiveness has been attested to by thousands of users and organizations worldwide. They welcome feedback and seek to improve their tool to meet their users' needs. Scholarcy has made it easier for researchers to do their job, and they are continually striving to make it more accessible to more people across the world.

Features

Background Reading List

Get Up to Speed on Any Field

When performing research in a new field, it can be challenging to understand the main topics and concepts from the latest research. Scholarcy generates a background reading list to help you get up to speed. This feature saves valuable time by providing reading material that is directly relevant to your research. The reading list allows you to learn the key concepts in a field and gain insight into relevant research without spending hours searching for papers manually.

Highlight Terms and Abbreviations

Scholarcy also highlights terms and abbreviations in the text, making it easy to refer back to them while you are reading. This feature is especially helpful when reading dense, technical text where there are many complex terms and abbreviations. By highlighting these terms, Scholarcy helps you to understand the text more easily and quickly without having to refer back to a glossary or dictionary every time you come across an unfamiliar term.

Robo-Highlighter™

Automatically Highlight Important Phrases

Scholarcy's unique Robo-Highlighter™ automatically highlights important phrases and contributions made by the paper. This advanced AI tool has learned how academic papers are written and can identify when an important point is being made. With this feature, you no longer need to print off papers and manually go over them with a marker pen to highlight important information. The Robo-Highlighter™ function saves valuable time and makes it easier to identify key information and the most significant contributions in academic papers.

Summary Generator

Summarize Whole Papers with References

Scholarcy's summary generator summarizes the whole paper, including references, while rewriting statements in the third person. This makes it easier to cite the information correctly in your report, essay, or thesis. The summarization process is fully customizable, allowing users to choose the number of words, the level of highlighting, and the level of language variation. This feature is particularly useful for researchers who need to skim read a large number of papers quickly to find relevant information. With Scholarcy's summary generator, you can quickly identify key information and concepts in a paper, without investing hours in reading through the entire document.

Reference Management

Locate Open-access PDFs from Multiple Sources

Scholarcy is the perfect tool to help you manage your research references. You no longer need to trawl the web trying to find papers in the references because Scholarcy does that for you. This academic research tool locates open-access PDFs from Google Scholar, arXiv, and elsewhere. Scholarcy enlists the excellent UnPaywall API to help with this. Additionally, you can download the entire bibliography in BibTex or .RIS format, making it easier to import entries to your favorite reference management tool.

Table and Figure Extraction

Download Tables in Excel Format

With Scholarcy's table and figure extraction feature, you can easily find and download tables in a PDF or Word document in Excel format. This makes it possible to run your calculations on the results for your research. The table and figure extraction feature ensures that you have all the data you need for your research gathered together in one place. You no longer need to spend hours re-typing data into Excel, and this feature saves valuable time in the research process.

Cross-referenced Thumbnails of Each Figure

Scholarcy can be configured to give you thumbnails of each figure in the PDF, cross-referenced in the text, so you can easily jump to the corresponding figure while you are reading. This feature is particularly helpful when analyzing graphical data or visualizing research results. By providing visual reference points, Scholarcy helps you to better understand the data in academic papers and makes cross-analysis between research much simpler.

To do this, simply go to the Settings menu and click View, then change the Rows on Page to 100. Click the Save changes button. Afterward, go to your folder or Library, click the Move/Export/Delete button, and click on the Export documents option. Lastly, click the checkbox at the top to select all articles, and then click the Export selected button.

To navigate through an article using the highlights, click on the Contributions and Important points links under the Highlight key menu.

Can I upgrade from a monthly subscription to an annual subscription?

Yes, you can. If you have a monthly subscription, upgrading to an annual subscription is possible. To do so, log into your Scholarcy account and go to the Subscription page. Here, you can manage your account and upgrade to an annual subscription following the provided steps.

Does Scholarcy distribute original papers or summaries of original papers?

No, Scholarcy does not distribute original papers or summaries of the original papers. We treat the copyrights of the paper as we would with any reference management tool, Google Drive, or Dropbox. Scholarcy uploads the paper to the user’s personal account for personal use in research. We go the extra mile by summarizing the paper, removing the original PDF, and ensuring that nobody else can access the paper.
