Disadvantages of SLS Printing

However,  SLS printers are slower than FDM printers. Additionally, they take longer to  print. Furthermore, they are more expensive than FDM printers.

Some of these include price, build volume, print speed, material  type, ease of use, etc. Here are some key points to think about when shopping  around for a 3D printer.

Build Volume - How big does the  finished product need to be? Will it be large enough to hold small objects?  Do you plan on printing larger models?

Print Speed - Does  the machine produce prints fast enough for your needs? Are there any  limitations on the size of the object being  printed?

Material Type - What kind of materials can you  print with? Can you print plastic, metal, ceramic, glass, paper, foam,  leather, wood, stone, plaster, concrete, clay, wax, resin, silicone,  soapstone, marble, sandpaper, paintbrushes, toothbrush, pencil, chalkboard,  etc.?

Ease of Use - How easy is it to set up and operate?  Is it intuitive? Is it user friendly?

Printers With Print  Heads

There are two types of 3D printers available today:  those with print heads and those without. Most consumer grade machines are  designed to print directly on top of each other. However, most professional  level machines require support structures called "build plates".  Build plates allow you to stack multiple layers of material together and  create complex designs.

Printers Without Print  Heads

These machines are typically cheaper and easier to  use. They are ideal for beginners who wish to learn the basics of 3D modeling  and printing. Many of these machines are capable of producing high quality  results. However, they lack the ability to print on top of each other.  Instead, they must be placed side by side to form a single  layer.

Printers With Print Heads

This  category includes both consumer and commercial grade machines. While these  machines are generally more expensive, they are able to print on top of each  other.
