WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
Installation was easy, and setup was easy. If you are stuck on step one and get three red beeps during the handle identification process, make sure you are using fresh batteries. I pulled the batteries from another location, and even though it appeared they worked, they weren't enough power for the lock to turn and the process to complete.
I cannot tell you how many times I had worked in my shop and came to the front door and saw that my children had left and locked me out of the house. You come home with your car and then you have to go back in the house because you forgot something. Did you realize that you were not doing something right during your vacation? Give your neighbor the guest code. All of those issues are no longer a problem. If you get one you will not be sorry, even if you did not order another. I am currently ordering a Backdoor.
Just like all of the Amazon Basics products that I have tried, this one seems of the same quality as the expensive name brands. I have just installed it, so I cannot comment on the longevity. It is heavy, has a solid feel, and was easy to install. The hole through the door for the latch assembly did not line up with that of the previous door lock/latch assembly. So, I reused the old latch mechanism. It was easy for the latch not to be standard, or if it is the new latch. This was only an issue because I was reusing the existing mounting hole. If this were a new installation, the template that comes with the new lock assembly would have positioned the hole exactly to match the new lock.
I am very happy with this electronic deadbolt. I installed it on my garage door about one month ago, and have had no problems so far. It is built with all metal parts and is very solid.
The installation process was straightforward. I am extremely fast, secure, and strong. You will need to set up the password. It is very convenient. I no longer require a key. This deadbolt lock is really good value for money and inexpensive.
WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
I have never been so incredibly angry at a lock in my life. Yet here I am purchasing another lock. I am glad you asked. Three years ago, we purchased our first Schlage keypad deadbolt for our Mil Suite door. We loved it so much that we purchased two more for our other exterior doors. It is astounding how much your life improves when you dont have to worry about carrying or losing keys. In order to be safe, we changed the batteries on New Years Day. I thought that the override keys were safe. I am sure that you are able to see where this will lead. The hotel is locked out, as guests arrive in five hours. The battery died after I accessed the suite to collect the linens. I could not go downstairs because when I went downstairs to load the washer I received a red blinking light from a locked door. However, I knew the location of the key, so there is no problem. Did I mention it was raining? So, after a few minutes of panicking and ransacking every drawer in the house I called a locksmith. I felt more calm when he arrived. He could not pick or bump it. I pray he responds positively to my attempt in the rain for 45 minutes. He called for assistance. She was unable to do it as well. They were unable to pick it and bump it. They were unable to do anything. Even with the key you had to perform some key gymnastics to engage the bolt. It was never possible to do that with the picks even with three sets of human hands holding the various bits all at once. She offered to come back and drill the keyhole part, but expressed concern that all she would accomplish would be the destruction of the lock without the benefit of it actually unlocking. The pair left after she apologized profusely. She mentioned a safecracker that she knew but unfortunately the call went to voicemail. Perhaps he was breaking into banks. I was getting frustrated after going to locksmith stores all over town. By this point my husbands plane had landed, and he had no idea where the key was. He called a friend who had power tools. He was kind enough to rescue me. We decided to start violently since I was so angry now by trying to beat it off with a ball peen hammer. Because that thumb turn simply spins and spins and spins. It is a great design when you think about it. He arrived by removing the door trim and cutting through the bolt with a 6" grinder blade. I had my guests lock their suites with inexpensive kwiksets, then he replaced it. I do not want to repeat a day that was stressful. With that being said, I did sleep better knowing how difficult it would be to break into a house via the doors. I will be able to purchase a replacement. I feel a lot safer knowing how pained I was to get through that lock. Our local burglars are not accustomed to that type of difficulty. They lack the drive. I highly recommend this item, but be sure you purchase quality batteries. Do not compromise on your items and do not misplace the key otherwise you will need heavy artillery.
This feature allows you to lock the door on the way out, by simply pressing the Schlage button, without having to enter code. In the installation procedure, take great care when reading step 6 of the guide. If the unit is not oriented correctly, turning lock functions will not function. I email, and contact Schlage frequently. Their representative said, if the factory reset did not work, then the unit was defective and I need to return it. I pulled the lock apart and noticed the little point down thing was rotated 90 degrees while unit was in the unlock position, this is wrong. It should be oriented like the drawing shows when in the unlock position. If you are having trouble with the turn lock feature, check this before returning the unit. Here is the link to the Schlage user guide. This unit is great. Schlage needs to add this step to the troubleshooting section of the guide.
It is heavy duty, beautifully made. This deadbolt is definitely better quality than the Kwikset keypad deadbolt that I have. I like the fact that you have to turn it to lock and unlock, instead of a small motor moving it. It seems that this will last longer and the battery will not drain so quickly. It is a bit more complicated to change the code than any other electronic lock that I have ever had. In order to start the program, you have to input a preprogrammed code printed in the instruction manual and then type your own code in. It is not a problem, but it is more difficult than Kwikset. I am happy with the product. Update, over a year later on 12/22/16 I am still on the same 9V battery this lock began with in November of 2015. They get roughly the same amount of use. This saves money and also helps me avoid getting locked out of the house because of a dead battery. I'd recommend this deadbolt over a Kwikset any day. I think nearly four years is an excellent battery life, and I changed the review to five stars.
I wanted to change my locks after my ex moved out. I was not satisfied that he was able to access the information in any manner. After looking at the various options, I choose the Schlage Cam 609 Camelot. I was able to install it by myself in about ten minutes using only a manual screwdriver. Program your own 4-digit code as well as remove code you programmed yourself. I find this especially useful when the ex has to bring the children with him. I can program a temporary code for him, then delete it after he has children. If you are searching for an easy choice then this is a great choice. It also comes with extra secure strike plates and extra long screws so thieves cannot access your deadbolted door. I feel much safer in my own home now. We are still enjoying this lock. The numbers on the buttons do not show any signs of wear after 18 months of use. I replaced the batteries on Jan. 1 just to be safe. I would have loved a lighted keypad. If I have to change locks, I will choose a one with an illuminated keypad.
