Ipratropium nasal spray comes in a bottle containing 0.03 milligrams of each ingredient. Each dose of ipratropium nasal spray contains 2.5 micrograms of ipratropium bromide and 5 micrograms of phenylephrine hydrochloride. Both of these ingredients must be inhaled through your nose.
Your doctor will likely start you off with 1 mg of ipratropium nasal spray once daily. Your dosage will most likely increase after 3 months based on how well you respond to treatment. If you experience no relief within 4 hours, your doctor may increase your dosage to 2 mg twice daily.
You should take ipratropium nasal spray when you feel like your nose is running. Take it at least 15 minutes before eating or drinking anything else. Do not use more than 6 doses per day.
Alcohol can interact with certain medications, including ipratropium nasal spray. Talk to your pharmacist about mixing alcohol with this product.
Ipratropium nasal spray stays in your body for approximately 12 hours. To keep track of how long you've taken your medicine, count backwards from 24 hours after taking your last dose.
Ipratropium nasal spray is generally considered safe for all ages. However, talk to your pediatrician if your child has asthma.
Take your missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it's almost time for your next scheduled dose.
Avoid activities that require alertness, such as driving, operating heavy machinery, or performing tasks that require mental alertness.
Store ipratropium nasal spray at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep the container tightly closed.
