Iodine nasal sprays are effective against bacteria such as streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumonia) and Haemophilus influenzae (bronchitis). This means that they can prevent infections caused by these bacteria. Iodine nasal sprays may also reduce the risk of developing sinusitis and other respiratory tract infections.
While there isn't a lot of research into the effectiveness of iodine nasal sprays, studies suggest that they work well. According to one study, patients who took iodine nasal spray experienced fewer episodes of acute otitis media compared to those who did not receive the treatment. Another study found that children who received iodine nasal spray experienced fewer symptoms associated with upper respiratory infection.
