Fingerprint Scanners

Fingerprint scanners are small devices that scan fingerprints so you can unlock your phone, computer, tablet or other electronic device. This allows you to quickly log into websites and apps instead of typing in lengthy passwords. If you've ever forgotten your password, then you know how frustrating it can be trying to remember something you may not easily recall. Nowadays, fingerprint scanners are becoming increasingly popular because they eliminate the hassle of having to memorize complicated passwords.

A fingerprint scanner works by scanning your finger and comparing it against a database of information stored on your mobile device. Once the match is found, the system unlocks the device automatically. It's easy to set up and convenient to use. Most smartphones already include a fingerprint reader, but you can also download third party software to install a fingerprint scanner on your laptop or desktop PC. Read our buyers guide to learn more about fingerprint scanners and how they work.

It is working well on my Lenovo Ultrabook and it's running the latest Windows 10. So far it has been accurate and very fast. I am pleased with it. I searched Google for a tutorial about the Eikon mini USB fingerprint reader. It is listed on Windowscentral.com, so I did not post the link here. To install, I inserted the reader into a USB port. Go to settings accounts sign in options under Windows Hello. The Windows fingerprint settings are located in the program. I installed a LastPass extension, updated it, and turned on the fingerprint option on the Chrome web browser. It worked flawlessly and quickly. If this fingerprint reader is suitable for your needs I would highly recommend it.

I installed it painlessly on my Windows 10 PC and tablet. I wiped my finger several times and my profile was created. I can free the reader from one device and hook it into the other without having to go through the fingerprint profile creation process again. A light swipe will solve the problem. I agree, it takes a small amount more effort than the readers, which do not require swiping, but it is about half the price of those who are complaining.

I was a little confused by the initial setup, as it seemed to not properly recognize my finger(s), but once I lightly swiped it, it just worked. I am using this on Windows 10 Pro, on a Thinkpad X230. It is very wonderful to use Windows Hello at reboot time, or with the screensaver lock. I have LastPass as well and it integrates well. I have an account with admin rights, and I only use my machine for limited time. The device will not allow you to use the same finger for both accounts. I will use my index finger for my standard account and my 2nd finger for my admin account. I am a little nervous about how it protrudes from the side of my laptop, so I will need to be careful.

I did have to write a note about the gentleman because I do not usually write reviews on Amazon. It was an excellent experience from the very first day when I plugged it in, went to Windows Hello, and swiped through my fingers to set it up. There is no manual installation or software to deal with. It logs me in instantly, and I've never had it missread my fingerprint. The design is ergonomically pleasing because it is plugged into the side of my Das Keyboard. I wish it was cleaner. But for the price of lunch, you can add extremely fast, secure fingerprint logins to your computer.

Eventually it works and drivers are installed. I do not invest my money in stocks for myself. Other thoughts are why this is not standard on all laptops and why I can buy a cheap Chinese brand laptop at Walmart with one built in.

It works flawlessly in Windows ten and eleven. The right driver is difficult to locate. Once you have the correct driver installed, this device will work flawlessly. It is no longer necessary to be encrypted with passwords or pins in order to access the system.

It enabled you to make your older desktop or laptop have the security of locking your computer and even better unlocking it easily without remembering another password. This product has great value for money and works just as expected.

Instead of passwords, I can simply scan my finger. It is relatively easy to download Chinese software, and it runs smoothly after you update.

I was not aware of the high cleaning costs associated with polycarbonate lenses. There was constantly an oily film on the lenses. Everything I did to try and clean them resulted in only smearing the oil around. I attempted to search for a solution using Google. It indicated that it would require dishwashing liquid, a rinse and a clean towel. I had a few feet of distance to go before accidentally destroying my glasses so I would have to buy a new pair. I saw the cloths mentioned on a website, and despite my doubts, decided to try them. They removed the film from my lenses on the first attempt. I will never use any more than this. My suggestion would be to have six in a pack. One at my desk, one in my bedroom, one in my purse, one in the car.

Here is a microscope image of the weaving. I could not want a better cloth. This is effective.

I am not usually a person to write reviews very quickly after receiving a gift, but I did comment on these cloths. I disapprove of microfiber cloths. They are supposedly great for cleaning your glasses and screens, but every microfiber cloth I have ever used has left unbearable streak marks on every surface, whether used alone or with a cleaning product. They were beautiful and I had to spend a lot of money on clothes. I wasn't sure what I would like. I highly recommend that I buy it again. I am glad that there are so many options. That means that I can keep one on my person at all times. I highly recommend it.

My son bought a expensive DLSR camera and I asked him if he needed anything to go with it. He had everything major. However, he did need some lens cleaning cloths. I asked him to pick them up and I would purchase them for him. He went through some tacks of searching and concluded that they were correct. He likes the gray one because it helps with photography, getting the right white balance, and cleaning his lenses. It is good for anything that requires a soft microfiber cloth. He gave me two black ones. I use them on my phone, television, glasses, and other things. No lint or streaking. My son says the gray cloth does exactly what he wants it to. He is very satisfied with the black one, his lenses, and other items that he owns. I did not realize there were differences between the two types of microfiber cloth, but apparently there are. These products are great. They leave nothing but a clean surface. They are well priced for six individually encased cloths. They come in little plastic envelopes so that you can carry one in your purse, backpack, camera case or even pocket.

WHAT WE LIKED MOST:

I have worked with and tested fingerprint sensors for about twenty years. The Benss sensor is certainly the smallest we have tested. There are two Benss sensors in the picture. We recently integrated our bioLock biometric control center for SAP ERP with Windows Hello. We are identifying easy to use and easy to install fingerprint devices that work with Windows Hello. A recommendation is clearly worth it from a user perspective. Some laptops it was difficult to install and required downloading the drivers from the provider's website as indicated on the packaging. Other laptops like the Lenovo and Dell were plug and play. However, they required a restart following the installation in order for the sensor to be recognized. We tested the device using a Microsoft Surface which has built in face recognition. Face recognition and fingerprint were conflicting so we had to disable them in order for them to function. A normal customer will buy this device for a laptop without biometrics installed and will be very happy to see how quickly the sensor logs onto Windows. It is possible to create multiple Windows profile for the family so that they each can enroll their finger in to their profile. We like that the user has the option to place a finger on their finger and see if it can identify the user. This is great for fast user switching if multiple users share a PC at work for smaller tasks such as warehouse / health care etc. Great product, but keep it in the laptop at all times or you will be searching for it quite a bit.

I use this with my custom made computer and it works flawlessly. It's easier to unlock and much more convenient than having to input a password constantly. I'm interested in purchasing a second one for my laptop. I highly recommend it. The only issue was trying to install the drivers. The code is on a small piece of paper. It's not very understandable. You can print the web address on the piece of paper, then use the app on my phone to access the website address. I thought that was absurd. Either way, it's still an awesome little device.

For those interested, in-the-hood this Benss USB Fingerprint Reader is a ELAN Microelectronics Corporation, Elan SmartID Fingerprintreader - HWID = USB, VID_04F3&PID_0C28.With that said, I have a stand up workstation at work. I have a policy of locking my desktop after one minute of inactivity and that it locks when I step away frequently. It is near my keyboard and allows me to unlock my desktop with a simple finger swipe. I have been spending around 65 on it, which has worked for me for the last three years. Now, I have adopted a second workstation at another site and wanted to replicate my original setup, but I did not wish to spend that much on a second reader. I purchased a Benss USB fingerprint reader and paired it with a StarTech USB port that rests next to my keyboard. I could not be more pleased with the results. This one from Benss is actually a bit more sensitive. It only requires a tap of my finger at pretty much any angle. There is nothing more to say, but this fingerprint reader is simple to setup, very fast, and cost effective. It works well on a laptop, and when paired with the correct USB hub or desktop USB port cable, it works great with a desktop as well.

The fingerprint reader performs exactly as advertised. The packaging is nice and the product itself looks good. I have no issues with the build or finish of the reader. If you are having trouble with Windows Hello Setup crashing immediately as soon as you attempt to set up your fingerprint, check your group policy and re-enable UAC. It has been found that a bug prevents the setup from running if you disable the Unified Access Control feature.

It said that it had trouble recognizing fingerprints when I first saw it with a hamster. The occurred twice, but the third time it said it was done, so I tried it five times, each time it opened the computer immediately with no repeat attempts. I tried another brand and it was not registerable for me no matter how many times I tried it. The reviews were negative, so I was apprehensive. Since I always check the web site for the latest drivers they did not bother me. I believe that the name of a website should be written on a piece of paper, but it is only a small issue for me to take the large print off. With any of these devices, you have to be patient when scanning your first print. If it is successful it will give you many more successes later. So far, this is a 5-star recommendation.

It all works great. I have not encountered any fingerprint recognition issues in either Windows 7 or 10. I have been using it for more than a month now, and I just upgraded to Windows 10.

I find the product to be of high quality. However, even with the help of the manufacturer's engineers, I was never able to get it to work properly with Windows 10. I am very tech savvy.

The fingerprint reader is very fast and detects anywhere. Also, it is easy to install and setup.

It works great on Windows 10. You should set up your fingerprints, even if you have already set up another one.

The answer is that it works exactly as intended. When you are in the mood to do that, you must simply tap your finger onto it. This, together with the overall build quality, accounts for the disparity in cost between this model and many other models. It is made from solid metal and it is a nice refreshing change from other items now. Additionally, it reads very fast since I am using Windows 10 Hello. I did not install any drivers or anything like that. First, open Cortana and search for the term BioMetric Devices. Navigate to the fingerprint setup window.

It may be costly, but in this case, you are getting what you pay for. I have used the iDOOT Lockey mini fingerprint reader for over a year but find it very frustrating to use, frequent misses and constantly having to be retrained. It is most likely that the small sensor caused the problem, however, given the price of $25, what should you expect? Zvetco Verify is a totally different story. All I had to do was plug it in, and Windows 10 Pro recognized it automatically, providing the driver. Installation was not required. Once I train it, it has been a smooth sailing, almost. A conflict with RoboForm's update caused a bug. However, that was corrected by RoboForm in a subsequent update, even though they claimed it was the reader's driver which caused the problem. The Zvetco email support was very prompt and friendly. Unfortunately, was not able to provide a solution. The problem was resolved, and the reader was used very well. It takes longer than the IDO to recognize my fingerprint. Maybe one second in RoboForm, and two seconds signing into Windows. However, it has more data points to analyze. I have an extra wire on my desk. The reader is very sturdy and attractive. I'm extremely satisfied with it and recommend it highly. RoboForm is an excellent password manager that I have been using for many years.

I have been using this product on my Windows 10 desktop for several months now, and it works great. We do not have any issues whatsoever. It recognizes the fingerprint fairly quickly, but not quite as quickly as, say, the iPhone 8. This is easier than typing in pins or passwords each time. It is also excellent for other computers, as they do not have to remember their PINs or passwords either. Set them up with their own profile and fingerprints and you are good to go.

This thing works with Windows 10. After plugging it in, I was able to configure Hello to use it as a fingerprint reader. After I reached the Windows login screen, I placed my finger on the reader. Within five seconds, I was recognized by Windows and logged in. It has worked without a hitch since then.

I bought one of these at work to make an ID card pin reset station. When I connected it to the computer, Windows detected it and loaded the driver with no problems. It can scan fingerprints in good time depending on the accuracy of the user's placement of their finger. The device has a heavy feel and a nice finish. It separates from the dock station for some reason but not a big deal.

It works better than advertised, but there is no software provided with it.

It is a very good product. The song has been around for a while and is still doing well.

Buyer's Guide

How To Choose The Best Fingerprint Scanner

Biometrics have become increasingly common as more devices require authentication, but they also come with their own set of problems. For example, fingerprints aren't always reliable, and they can be easily copied by criminals. This article looks at what makes a good fingerprint scanner, and whether you should use one at all.

What Is A Fingerprint Scanner?

Fingerprints are unique patterns of ridges and valleys found on our fingers. They contain information about us that no two people share. This includes our fingerprints, palm prints, and even our DNA. These unique characteristics make fingerprints an excellent form of identification for many applications including security systems, criminal records, and personal identification. The first known use of fingerprints was in 18th century England where criminals were required to leave their prints at the scene of a crime. In the United States, the FBI began using fingerprints to identify suspects in the 1930s. Today, most law enforcement agencies around the world use fingerprints to help solve crimes.

How Does A Fingerprint Scanner Work?

The process begins with a finger placed into a device called a scanner. The scanner uses light to capture images of the fingerprint pattern. It then converts these images into digital data that can be compared against databases containing millions of previously scanned fingerprints. If there is a match, the system will indicate whether the print belongs to someone who has been arrested before. Most modern scanners use lasers instead of light to create the image. Laser scanners are more accurate than older technology but require special training to operate properly.

Who Needs A Fingerprint Scanner?

Fingerprints are unique to each person. No two fingerprints are alike. But, we all share certain characteristics. These similarities mean that our fingerprints can be used to identify us.

This makes fingerprint scanning a useful tool for security purposes. It's one of the most effective methods of identifying individuals. It's also a great way to verify someone's identity.

Biometrics are becoming increasingly common. Biometric technology has been around for decades. However, recent advances in computer processing power and sensor technology have made these devices more affordable and accessible.

In addition to being able to identify people, biometric sensors can also be used to collect data. This includes information such as heart rate, blood pressure, skin temperature, and breathing patterns.

These types of sensors can be found in everything from smartphones to smartwatches. Some companies use this type of technology to monitor employees' productivity. Others use it to track patients' vital signs during medical procedures.

The potential uses for biometric sensors are almost limitless. As long as they aren't invasive, they could prove beneficial.

However, before using biometric technology, it's important to understand how it works. This includes knowing which features are best suited for identification.

Each category offers its own advantages and disadvantages. For instance, while touch sensors can be easily fooled, they are very accurate. On the flip side, they require direct contact with the user.

Iris recognition is highly reliable but requires special lighting conditions. Facial recognition is generally considered the least secure form of biometric authentication.

The Importance Of Purchasing A Quality Fingerprint Scanner

Fingerprints have become increasingly popular among law enforcement agencies and private citizens alike. They've even gained popularity among criminals who use them to identify themselves when they commit crimes. Although fingerprints are used by many people, they aren't necessarily easy to obtain. This is where fingerprint scanners come in handy. A fingerprint scanner allows you to scan your finger and instantly access any number of databases containing personal information about you. These include credit card numbers, social security numbers, criminal records, etc.

A fingerprint scanner is one of those items that most people think they already own. After all, everyone has seen them in movies and television shows. Unfortunately, most of us never really thought about how we could use them until now. We'll show you just how useful a fingerprint scanner can be in everyday life.

Scanning your fingerprint isn't difficult. All you do is place your finger on the scanner and wait for it to read your unique pattern. You're done!

If you want to learn more about fingerprint scanners, keep reading below. We'll tell you everything you need to know.

A fingerprint scanner is basically a small computer that uses technology similar to that found in cell phones and laptops to capture your fingerprint. When you first purchase a fingerprint scanner, you may find that it doesn't work very well. This is because the software used to create the scanner wasn't designed to work with fingers other than your own. Fortunately, manufacturers have since developed software that works with different types of fingers. So if yours didn't work initially, try again later.

You can use your fingerprint scanner in several ways. For example, you can use it to unlock your phone, laptop, tablet, or desktop computer. Another way to use your fingerprint scanner is to verify your identity.

Features To Consider When Buying A Fingerprint Scanner

Fingerprints. In fact, fingerprints were first identified as being unique in 18th century Europe. Today, they've become more sophisticated than ever thanks to advances in technology.

Security features. As technology continues to improve, so does the security features built into fingerprint readers. Some fingerprint readers now incorporate encryption technology, which makes them even harder to hack. And many fingerprint readers can store multiple fingerprints, allowing you to unlock your device with just one touch.

Ease of use. With today's advanced fingerprint readers, you no longer need to swipe your finger over a sensor. Many fingerprint readers can scan your fingers using only light pressure. This means you can easily access your phone while wearing gloves.

Speed. Most fingerprint readers work quickly. They usually take less than half a second to read your prints. That speed allows you to enter passwords faster and unlock your devices quicker.

Accuracy. Accuracy is another important factor when shopping for a fingerprint scanner. Make sure the fingerprint reader you select scans your fingerprints accurately. Poorly scanned fingerprints could cause problems if you rely on them to authenticate yourself.

Size. Another consideration when purchasing a fingerprint scanner is its size. Smaller fingerprint readers tend to be easier to carry and operate. But larger ones may be easier to conceal.

Battery life. Battery life is another important feature to consider when selecting a fingerprint scanner. Look for models that have long battery lives. These allow you to leave your fingerprint scanner plugged in overnight, then wake up to a fully charged battery.

Technology. Technology plays a big role in how well a fingerprint scanner performs. Look for models that use optical sensors, rather than capacitive sensors. Capacitive sensors are generally cheaper, but optical sensors are more accurate.

Different Types Of Fingerprint Scanner

Fingerprints are incredibly useful tools. Fingerprint Scanners are used by police departments across the globe to identify criminals. They are also used by banks to verify identity. They are also increasingly becoming part of our everyday lives. We use fingerprints to unlock our phones, log into websites, and even to access our bank accounts.

There are two main ways to scan fingerprints. One is through a traditional swipe device. A swiped finger is placed against a glass plate and then pressed down. The pressure causes ridges on the surface of the finger to indent into the glass. This creates a pattern that can be scanned and matched up to a database of known prints. The second method uses a camera to capture images of fingers. This allows for a larger area of the finger to be scanned without having to press down on the entire finger.

The following sections will go over the various types of fingerprint scanners currently available. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, a swipe scanner is good for quick scans and is inexpensive. On the flip side, a camera scanner is better suited for long term storage and is less likely to break.

A swipe scanner works similarly to how a credit card machine works. When you place your finger on the scanner, it reads the ridge patterns on your finger. The scanner compares those patterns to a database of known prints. If the print matches, the system unlocks the door. Swipe scanners are cheap and simple to operate. They are also fairly accurate. However, they cannot compare to cameras in terms of accuracy. Also, they are prone to wear and tear. Over time, the glass plates become scratched and dirty. This makes it harder to match prints.

Unlike swipe scanners, camera scanners use light to illuminate the finger. Light bounces off the ridges on the finger and returns to the scanner. Cameras can detect subtle differences between ridges. Because of this, they are capable of matching prints that are slightly distorted or damaged. Camera scanners are also more durable than swipe scanners. These are also more accurate than swipe scanners. However, they are more expensive and complicated to set up. They also require a lot of maintenance.
