The review comes from a person who has two August smart locks. It is difficult to reach because the fingerprint scanner is sensitive. You should have your finger in the same position. I recently purchased this device to replace a bedroom doorknob. I want a reliable, fingerprint proof doorknob that I could remotely unlock. It is difficult for a doorknob to read your fingerprint when your hands are cold or moist. I am a devoted DIY fanatic and am used to seeing things that do not fit together, do not provide instructions or are inexpensively made. This is not that. The compact packaging had a thick, custom made feel, with all parts cradled nicely. It even comes with a shorty Phillips head screwdriver and a quality one at that with a plastic handle embedded with grippy rubber. They are heavier than you would expect and appear to be engineered with materials that are higher quality. The instructions are simple and straightforward with both visual and written instructions, which I prefer. It is painful to place screws through a deadbolt as the tips wander around in search of threaded holes. This set went together more quickly than any I have seen. The rubber gaskets are a good addition. Once tightened the internal and external locking parts felt very snug and never wiggled despite my best attempts. The latch held the door securely and acted smoothly while closing the door. I had to programme, because I wanted to store several dozen of my fingerprints from different angles to be able to perform more efficiently. The lock exceeded my expectations and was worth the money spent. I don't know of other biometric locks. I could think that when leaving the house, the lock should close quicker. I liked the color of this unit because it was much more suitable for replacing my standard upper deadbolt and door knob. The outer keypad unit, outside door handle, and inside door lever are all solid metal but the inside deadbolt/batterie unit is of plastic casing and is a solid black which is not oil rub specific in color. Installation and setup was easy. It took less than one and a half hours to replace the previous pieces, install the new pieces, and set up the keypad using all of my previously cut/drilled designs as-is. The installation of the lower handle and lever was a bit difficult to align both inside and outside to ensure a proper function of the levers before putting both sides together. Installation of the upper unit was much easier. I was able to setup a keypad with ease. I do not know what the password function is. While it is mentioned on the product page, it is not found in the included instruction. So you can disregard it and simply set up a pass code of your choice.Overall, if the spec matches your preference, this is a great purchase.

It is a great lock and it is easy to install and use. I previously replaced an older Kwikset lock with a fingerprint version. After I added my fingers, it was simple and quick to use. I do not need to carry keys, get my phone out, or anything similar. I use my fingers frequently because I enjoy getting notifications from the app when my family is using the lock. I obtained my family's fingerprints. There are no codes to remember anymore. The only issue I had was the cable when I connected the parts together. There were some initial struggles to find a place for it. I will see how long the batteries last. I am satisfied with what I have received, but I will see how it goes before I begin.
We have had the Kwikset Kevo for several years. The Kevo lock up and work anytime when they leave, however, they would not be able to return after 10:30. The app can be configured to send push notifications whenever the lock is operated, to put the unit into secure mode and disable fingerprint access, so you can go on vacation and deactivate the lock. The actuator sleeve on the inside powered unit is plastic. The previous one was a white metal. This should be a low stress connection, and it does not impact security, however if it breaks, you would be forced to exit from another door and use your key to unlock the unit, or disassemble the powered unit and manually operate the pin. On the positive side, this unit is about half the thickness of the Kevo. It amazingly resembles a real nice piece of art.
I have owned numerous electronic deadbolts in the last five or six years. This one is by far my favorite. It's build quality is very good. Then all of the parts and pieces were in five individual boxes, all labeled, and the instructions walked you through when to open each box during the installation process. It was simple and quick. The lock reads your fingerprint details quickly, and opens. I feel that it is a wonderful lock that does more than every other lock that I have attempted in the past. There are features that I like, such as the history feature, turning sounds on and off, and the auto lock, and I am hoping to purchase another one for my garage entry door. I have some photos that I took during the installation. I will upload them soon.
