WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
I purchased the deadbolt and the matching entry door handle to replace the old brass on my basement door. I had never installed a lock set before. I was a little concerned that this was a too good to be true price and either the lock would not be of very good quality or it would be difficult to install. It was great to see very detailed installation instructions, and the lock is very good quality. I installed it with no problems in less than ten minutes. It is a good buy on a budget. It's square and contemporary style looks fantastic.
I have bought this for my bedroom door to provide some security until my roommates figure out how to actually lock the apartment door. I originally purchased a cheaper Honeywell lock, but something went wrong with the installation and the bolt would pull out of the door.
I purchased one brass and one satin nickel finish, both in used condition. Brass is a replacement for a lock that is not working and Satin Nickel is for a new door without a lock. During the brass installation, I discovered the one of the two screws to the cylinder would not go all the way in, and must be the reason it was returned. I ended up using old cylinders and keys so I now have a working lock. I will try a nickel lock later this week and if it is identical, I will order a new one in good condition.
When we were moving to a new kitchen, we came across these. Those are not true fears. I ordered three and each of them was very easy to install it took me about fifteen minutes per door to change out four hinges, a deadbolt, and a door knob purchased from this same Amazon series. Additionally, I was impressed by the look and feel of the deadbolts. The components worked perfectly, and the finish did not appear to be prone to wear or chipping off. The only thing I will add is that it is not a major concern nor something I know all that much about. I do not have a realistic basis to judge how secure these are. In another review I have seen that the locks used here are very simple. If security is the primary concern, you may want to investigate the problem further. If, like myself, you are looking to match other features of your home with a secure feeling lock that is easy to install, look no further. It was a wonderful purchase.
I purchased this item. My new office door had both a hole for a door handle and a dead bolt. I encountered the issue when needing to fill the deadbolt hole using my existing keypad door handle. I searched all over the internet and finally decided on this one. Even though I really will not use it, it is more to fill the hole. So I cannot speak on how the function, durability, or longevity of this deadbolt will be, but I give it five stars. Perhaps one day I will actively use it, but for now, it is just a hole filler.
WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
The lock is a very well designed lock. There are many nice touches both for the lock operation and the installation procedure. It was very simple and took me five to ten minutes. I followed the video that comes on the iPhone app, and it was very helpful. The most important point is not attempt to move the lock until the lock has set itself up at the end of the installation. It can make an alarm if someone is trying to gain entry to the lock, however you should not turn it on until it is setup. In my experience, bumping directly against a door does not accomplish anything. It takes a great deal of force to trigger alarm. You can set the lock to automatically lock after a time period of your choosing. The door will simply always remain locked. You need to close the door, of course. You can set the length of the code to your liking. If four digits is not secure then you can select any length of code you want, from four to eight digits. Eight digits is 100 million combinations. I love this feature because it makes the lock very secure. You can turn on or off a quick lock feature, which allows you to press the Schlage logo on the outside to lock the door without entering a code. Unlocking a device typically requires a code. You can view a log of every lock action so you can see when the lock was opened and closed and by whom if they used a code. You can add or delete codes for any person you want quickly and easily, and those codes can be set for specific days and times. For example, if someone walks your dog on weekdays between twelve and three, then you can set the code to work only during the time they will walk the dog. It means that they don't have access at night. The primary downside of this device is that it requires Apple devices to work well. It means that users of Android will not be able to receive much features like iOS users. Furthermore, it requires a recent Apple TV to perform remote work, and as of now Apple's implementation of this is flaky for remote operation. I believe that you should be able to unlock your door by simply asking Siri but in my experience, that is not realistic. It was successful for a short period of time, then it stopped. The app works really well when you are close to the locks. Another issue is that if you want to invite other users to use the iOS app they must have an iCloud account enabled on their iPhone and the correct settings for passwords enabled. This may be difficult if you are not familiar with the procedure. I'm a technical person, so it took me approximately five minutes to figure it out. This is an awesome lock with a great iOS app. If you want to unlock the door remotely, you have to rely on Apple, and the AppleTV because they are both flaky. This could change in the future, but at this time I do not plan on having a good remote experience.
I really wanted a smart lock because my husband, despite living in a major city, would constantly leave the door unlocked.
I do not understand the negativity that many people seem to have towards this lock. The lock works as described. There are several options, such as 1) manually adding codes without using a smartphone app, and I am not sure why anyone would pay for this lock and stick with this option, as the smart part will essentially be disabled, but it is nice to know that it is an option. It is available for anyone who owns a third generation Apple television and higher. If you do not know what generation you own, you could search google for the model number on the back or underside of the device. This is probably the easiest way to set this lock up for people who use everything Apple. My 1,000 square foot condominium has my Apple TV and the lock. It has never been a connectivity issue. Apple makes it easy on people with low technical knowledge to set up. Just unlocked my front door and ask Siri is relatively painless. I enjoy the remote access to the lock, using the apps that manage the lock. I can lock, unlock, assign codes, and disable codes from the SchlageSense app if I have an Internet connection. All of this is without a subscription fee that other smart lock manufacturers charge. I like the idea of using an iPad as a hub in HomeKit. I tried this a bit, just to see how well it worked, but I switched back to the Apple TV, because the Apple TV will always be home and plugged in. This also works similarly to Apple TV, and the setup is very quick. It is a simple setup process with the Home Kit. Please select Schlage Sense, Wi Fi Adapter option. I have not tried this option out, so I cannot verify whether or not it works. I read this is the only way to enable smart compatibilities using an Android device. It is an additional purchase, however smart things require hubs or adapters so it is not a problem. You are not currently able to use another type of hub that has a lock. It only supports Apple TV, iPad, or Wi-Fi. Does this Schlage Connect lock work if your are using the Amazon Echo or Samsung SmartThings hub? This is what makes this lock different from other locks I have used. Some smart locks have a glossy LCD screen where you hover your hand over a few random buttons that are prompted and then enter your code. Enter your code and it will unlock. It is a matte nickel finish, and there are no physical buttons, which break if worn. There are many connectivity options as described above. Batteries are very easily replaceable. I will likely only need to change the batteries once every two years. Your mileage may vary depending on how often it is used and how well the cylinder is aligned. Homekit integration is fantasticCons: The thing is loud but noise is not a factor in my like of the lock. The inside portion of the lock is heavy so this does not bother me. It is not compatible with Apple or Schlage hubs. Get the Schlage Connect for that. I would require installation, I think the lock was incompatible with my previous cylinder. That is not Schlage's fault. If you want a smart lock and own mainly Apple products, then get this lock. You will not regret it.
I researched which door lock to use for over one week. The sense model is the only option to obtain to manipulate the lock with the app or use the plock with an Android or iPhone. I ordered from Amazon, and received the lock literally on a Sunday. I ordered on a Friday. It was less expensive than anywhere else. You should use Amazon.
I read the installation manual. I am only going to be installing it for about 45 minutes, so I did the steps properly. I left the installation manual as it was, then I grabbed the user manual so I could figure out how to setup my passcode, and any other tasks I need to do. Although the range is minimal, with possible range between 20 and 30 feet between the phone and the door, I enjoyed the feature, and did not expect it to function. Update your phone, open the package, take pictures, or write down the two codes, start installing and then download the Schlage app.
WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
I know today that if you put this lock in, you will be very quick. I chose this because of its heavy duty components. Pick up a competitor's lock, and notice the difference in weight and the components. The lock bolt is moved manually, while it is electronic. It is important because the battery life for locks with automatic bolts is greatly reduced. I am aware that the bolt is in place because I turn the lock. It will expand and contract as I get sunlight at different times of year. Having an automatic lock that requires more force due to the door shifting can cause issues with the life of the mechanism or in some cases may not lock when you think it did. If I notice that the lock is starting to bind, I can pull or push on the door while throwing the bolt thus relieving any pressure and protecting the components. I feel as if I will get a better life from this lock. I bought a handle that matches mine. I was impressed by the components and the ease of installation.
I purchased this keyless door lock after my previous ones had failed. The issue with fully motorized deadbolts is that they require perfect alignment of the door and door frame with minimal interference. I have heavy weather stripping and a deadbolt that is so tight in the door frame. The motorized version had two problems. The deadbolt is manual actuated. The keyless pad locks the outside actuator, so you can manually move the deadbolt. I find this to be effective in my situation. I find the battery life to be good. If the battery does break down and you are locked out, you can put a 9V battery on the terminal outside and the keypad will work. The installation took five minutes. The first time you program the program, it takes five minutes to learn the instructions.
I have changed the deadbolts on this lock. I purchased five locks from Amazon and one from the hardware store. I am also adding a second deadbolt from Abloy or BiLoc just to add to the security of my doors. I have searched through more than a dozen combination locks before I came across this one. There are only a few companies that produce combination locks. Addition of a combination deadbolt with a key backup is not recommended if you are trying to secure your house from picking and bumping. This loss does not have any key backup system so it cannot be bumped or picked. You just need to take a 9volt battery, and touch it to the two builtin posts and enter your combination. Schlage is doing this because it has one of the best combination locks on the market today. I found that the online price was cheaper than any other place I have ever seen.
I was looking for a passcode lock that was safe and easy to use but did not connect to the internet. I am an IT professional with twenty years of experience. I appreciate the convenience that technology brings to us. Online is a very bad way to remove locks. This fits the bill. It provides convenience of not carrying a key, but does not come with the risk of connecting to the internet. There is no way to pick this lock because it does not have a key hole.
I installed a new front door, then upgraded it. My wife and I desired a reliable deadbolt solution that does not require a key. The Schlage's design is elegant, reliable, high quality, and easy to install. I gave Easy Locking a four star because the deadbolt does not lock alone when closing the door upon leaving. You require to enter your code and then manually lock the deadbolt when you leave. It is an easy to accept compromise for reliability and dependability compared to app supported locks who still have flaws and eat batteries like nothing for electrically turn the locking mechanism.
WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
I purchased this on February 9, 2017 and have had great success with it. The Zwave door lock replaced my older unit, which was not zwave. The one that it replaced moved to the inner garage entryway. Both the 914 and 913 have had many reviews complaining about the battery life. I need to inform those that the proper battery is key. I would recommend the Eneloop brand, if you are going to use rechargeable cells. Since installing this on February 9th, I recently had to replace the rechargeable electronics on May 12th, 2017. The batteries allowed it to work for over three months. I use my front door many times per day which is an average. I replaced the Eneloops with rechargeable lithium ion batteries to test. It works great when paired with SmartThings hub. It unlocks and locks easily, but it's best to read the fine manual first. The batteries last more than three months on rechargeable devices. Eneloops is my favorite. My only complaint is that I had a few difficulties pairing the device to my SmartThings hub. The unit must be close to the hub to pair it before mounting it to the door. This is an error on my part since I expected the lock to pair with my hub being a few dozen feet away. I received a 914 keypad that was smaller than the 913. The keypad from the 913 on the front door was connected to the new 914 inner part. The smaller keypad from 914 fit better on the doorway connecting the interior garage door. If you live in a cold region, then recharge your LiPo cells. They are more durable in colder temperatures. The LiPo cells I used appear to perform better than the Eneloops since their voltage is constant. The locking and unlocking seems faster and has more power to perform those tasks. The cell was from eBay and I bought it. I am currently using the ones I have installed, and I will update this review as I get more experience with them. If you search for, 'Kentli 1.5V 3000MWh AA Lithium LiPo.
If you have a programd into your network, you will not know how you lived without it. We need to find triggers for arm and disarmed out put. You will not have to spend time cutting keys or looking at the door step since the keypad lights up. When I add it to my network, the battery icon on the app goes to red in the first week. I had problems with it losing its connection with my controller. The keypad establishes an encrypted connection with your controller. If you add it to the network, 1) Keep it approximately twelve inches from your Zwave controller. The encryption process will not notify you that it is complete. Leave it there for another sixty seconds. You may wait sixty seconds for a change. I deleted it from my network, and reconnected it using these steps. No more connection issues, the battery was reporting correctly as full.
I want no LCD screen and nothing that gets ruined in the sun. The battery seems to last forever. My Smart Home says the battery is at 70% still after roughly six months. Smart home compatibility is great. My house automatically locks the doors every night, just as my smart home tells it to. It is loud enough that I can hear from my bedroom, but quiet enough that it is not an annoyance. It is simple to change batteries, if necessary. All in all, this is exactly what I wanted and looks amazing with my door components.
It was an solidly made product. The replacement for an older combination deadbolt that had failed. The brass finish is bright and flawless and comes with a lifetime warranty. The electronics and mechanism are covered for one year. Installing this is straightforward If you have ever installed a dead bolt before, you will have no issue with this. The lock comes with four standard AA batteries. They can be installed or replaced without taking the lock apart. The keys are easy to see and backlit. It is not a touch pad. Finger prints do not give away your code. The motors and moving parts are on the inside to protect it from the cold weather. The setup process is simple. It can be programmed as a standalone program or in conjunction with a hub. If you intend to use the lock with the Alexa or the phone app you will need to purchase a hub that supports Zwave. Unlocking is secured with a household pass code. I am very pleased with my purchase, especially the personal codes entered to unlock the car. I plan to purchase more entry doors.
WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
Installation was easy, and setup was easy. If you are stuck on step one and get three red beeps during the handle identification process, make sure you are using fresh batteries. I pulled the batteries from another location, and even though it appeared they worked, they weren't enough power for the lock to turn and the process to complete.
I cannot tell you how many times I had worked in my shop and came to the front door and saw that my children had left and locked me out of the house. You come home with your car and then you have to go back in the house because you forgot something. Did you realize that you were not doing something right during your vacation? Give your neighbor the guest code. All of those issues are no longer a problem. If you get one you will not be sorry, even if you did not order another. I am currently ordering a Backdoor.
Just like all of the Amazon Basics products that I have tried, this one seems of the same quality as the expensive name brands. I have just installed it, so I cannot comment on the longevity. It is heavy, has a solid feel, and was easy to install. The hole through the door for the latch assembly did not line up with that of the previous door lock/latch assembly. So, I reused the old latch mechanism. It was easy for the latch not to be standard, or if it is the new latch. This was only an issue because I was reusing the existing mounting hole. If this were a new installation, the template that comes with the new lock assembly would have positioned the hole exactly to match the new lock.
I am very happy with this electronic deadbolt. I installed it on my garage door about one month ago, and have had no problems so far. It is built with all metal parts and is very solid.
The installation process was straightforward. I am extremely fast, secure, and strong. You will need to set up the password. It is very convenient. I no longer require a key. This deadbolt lock is really good value for money and inexpensive.
WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
We purchased a deadbolt to lock our front door and absolutely love it. The first one that we received was not working properly. I called customer service and they immediately shipped a replacement, which arrived in two days. They sent us tracking information when it was delivered, checked in several times with detailed installation instructions and to make sure we were happy with the product and its functionality. The customer service was very good. I'm beyond expectations. We are impressed. I also love the lock. It is very useful to be able to assign combos or give the chip card to our house cleaner or pet sitter. It is great to be able to watch when my children or husband return from school or work. This lock has many wonderful features. Our entire family loves it. We highly recommend it.
WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
This is the contemporary version of the SmartCode 913 and goes well with Kwikset's modern styles such as the Halifax. The only disadvantage is that the exterior deadbolts are located in the middle of the hole, and this at the top, so you might have to touch up the paint on the outside of your door after installing this. The instructions could have been better. You are instructed to turn the drive lever a certain way, which is impossible unless you fit it into the handle and turn it until it clicks which almost feels like you are breaking it. The door orientation programming could be better too. The long success beep sounds like the long error beep. Once installed, it seems to work well. Ensure that your existing deadbolt works seamlessly. If you have to turn the key hard to lock or unlock it, then your door will be warped and you will have to adjust it before installing this. This is not WiFi or ZWave connected, if you want that you will need the 914 model.
I ordered three of these Kwikset deadbolt locksets to replace the existing deadbolt locks on my outside doors. Installation was simple. If you know how to use hand tools, and read instructions, and have the knowledge to use hand tools, you should be good. All of the measurements were in line with their requirements. Most doors are standard, if properly installed. Take all the measurements they recommend before starting the installation. The exterior of the car is constructed of a heavy, chrome plated metal. The locking mechanism also is made of metal. The only nonmetallic parts are the interior electronics. The directions aren't the best that I have ever seen relying on sketches with little or no text description of what to do and how to do it. Installation of the first lockset should take no more than an hour, probably less. Reinstalling the previous locks should speed things up. I have rekeyed the locks using their SmartKey feature. It works as advertised and is highly recommended. Normally, a key should be avoided except as a backup. I liked your application it's design and functionality it appears to be perfect. You can set up to sixteen separate codes to be used by yourself, family members, etc. Codes can easily be added and deleted for one-time use with a contractor, for example. I can recommend these lock sets, as I am pleased with them. Some reviews indicate that the lock motor may fail prematurely if they don't last. Some failures occur in a few months while others can take years. The electronics warranty is one year, and the exterior finish and mechanical parts are warranted longer, so if you experience a failure beyond that period, you may be out of luck. For convenience, I love having my keys not in my possession for opening or locking. Pressing one button allows you to unlock, and then entering the lock code helps you stay safe. I was able to disable the feature after briefly trying it. I wasn't sure how the keypad backlit function worked in the beginning. I don't recall it being mentioned in the installation and configuration instructions, and perhaps the product description was just incorrect. When unlocking the lock, you have to push the Lock button first. That illuminates the keypad, then key in your code.
If you are not in need of a wifi connection, this is a great unit. It looks great, is strong, and has worked flawlessly for three months. I find removing the wifi a great benefit because it adds unnecessary complexity to my application. The batteries have lasted three months. It has a very simple user interface. The look is much more expensive than it is. It is relatively protected from the elements in my application.
I searched for a chrome lock that was compatible with our chrome handle. This lock is awesome. I love it because it's our second electronic lock. That is really great I wish that the backlight would come on whenever I press a button but it does not. To turn on the backlight, press the lock buttons.
It is an extremely convenient addition to our front door. It is simple to install. The directions are a bit confusing, but not a lot of difficult to figure out. It has some bad reviews, but we just installed it, so I am not completely sure.
WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
I will begin by telling you that. Three rescued cats and two dogs are running around on my feet. I just had surgery three days ago. Today is the first day back to school for the kids midst a pandemic. Today may have been the worst day to attempt to install this. My junior high student needs to be able to move into her new school house two and a half hours prior to my arrival from my small business. I was unable to obtain the item installed because of unforeseen circumstances. I need it immediately installed and I must inform her that I am not willing to risk losing my key. I think that's the easiest thing I have ever done. It is easier then emptying the dishwasher. It installed itself. I finished in less than five minutes. It was shocking how quick and easy it was. It can detect itself, and then quickly switches to the direction it needs to operate. I wish this was the first one I purchased. So far, it has worked perfectly. We have tested it a half dozen times. I will update if it does not hold up over time. So far I highly recommend it.
Box directions aren't pleasant at all. If you scan the QR code, you get to the website video and more detail programming. My rating is 5 because the directions on the web were straightforward. This is my first home, and I have been updating and personalizing everything that I can. I placed this on the Laundry and Gardens door last night because none of the keys I received would turn the deadbolt. It led me to searching for something similar. It is a nice, modern touch that matches the rest of my decor. It is worth the price. I need to purchase another one for the garage and the back yard. I may add one to my front door. I believe the door should be beefier. Though the quality and construction is still very good. I will see how these first two are now. Add some extras. The addition of an expansion port makes for an instant jump if the battery doesn't last. I am not sure how much I will utilize it but I enjoy having the ability to add random numbers before or after your master pin, when someone is around.
I assume many of the reviews are false, but I am skeptical of all Amazon reviews. This product has only been installed for one day, but it was an excellent purchase. I wish this thing could handle my exterior doors, instead of simply my garage to house door. It is easy to install and cheaper in the price. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a keyless deadbolt. I feel like this device would work on most people's exterior doors, but I live in Northern Minnesota where it gets too cold for the device. The device can handle -2, but not -20, which is realistic for it to encounter.
Overall, I am very impressed. This deadbolt is typically available at a higher price point and has many nice features. It is wellmade, attractive, easy to install, and has some nice features. I really like the random fake numbers to confuse onlookers when entering the access code. My only complaint is that the electronic bolt will not engage the bolt hole in the door frame if you have thick weatherstripping or a misaligned door. The bolt and the hole must be aligned fairly closely to each other in order to engage easily. My door has thick weatherstripping around the door frame and when I press the key to engage the deadbolt, the bolt will touch or rub the bolt hole and automatically disengage without locking. In order to solve the problem, I need to pull on the door handle, press the engage button to engage the bolt, and hope that the bolt is properly aligned. In my old, manually operated deadbolt, I can pull on the door handle with varying pressure while turning the deadbolt lever until I find the hole and lock it. The door handle has a new electronic bolt, so you cannot help it feeling its way into the bolt hole. I believe this should be an issue for any electronic-actuated deadbolt design by any manufacturer. With time and experience, I should be able to learn how much force needs to be applied to the handle, to get it to lock consistently.
It was very easy to setup. I am proud to say I installed it myself. There's a key to unlock the code, but later, I found my own code to enter. It had a simple locking mechanism, easy to obtain upon exiting your home. The buttons are lightly backlit, so you may see it at night. It does require batteries to operate. It has an indicator letting you know how much life they have left. I really enjoy that I can set up the optional auto lock feature. This way, if I forget to lock it when I come in, it will lock itself. I appreciate that peace of mind.
