WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
This is a quiet operation. Securely shreds up to ten sheets of paper into very small pieces. Shredded about 200 pages in a row, and did not have any over heating. The room temperature was 68 degrees Farenheit, which may be a factor in over heating. The bin has a nice feature with hooks for holding a plastic bag in place. This is great because all the shredded paper goes neatly into a bag that can be removed without having to remove the entire bin. Over 500 sheets were shredded in just two weeks. One session included over 200 sheets. It is a strong operation that does not heat up.
I researched stores and read reviews and decided on Aurora AU1060MA in white. The previous shredder that I used had a crosscut, however, you were still able to read the pieces of shredded paper and I decided to use the microcut. This small, thin machine has a six gallon container that easy pulls out. I enjoy that it has a long window to let you see how full it is. It is difficult to tell what was shredded because the microcut pieces are so tiny and take longer for the container to fill up. It rolls easily, it has a modern look, and it is light weight. I gently inserted nine sheets of paper that were stapled together. They went in easily and were shredded quickly and quietly. I read a review that said to use a plastic bag inside of the bin for easier disposal. When I called Aurora Customer Service, whose number is listed on the shredder, I was told not to put a bag inside the container since it could interfere with the function of the LED indicator lights and cause damage. The container is easy enough to remove and empty into a waste bag. We get many unsolicited letters every day because it is a breeze to get rid of mail.
It is my second Aurora. My first one, pictured, was ten years long. I made my crosscut shredder very effective. I would haul away between 7 and 8 bags of shredded paper each week. I have used it for the first few years of my existence, after which I stopped using it and took it for granted. However, it continued to faithfully perform for such a long time that I cannot remember when I purchased it. I wanted another Aurora when it died, of course. This time, I got an upgrade. The newer model is quieter, has a larger capacity, longer run time, easy to empty, and the shredded pieces are tiny. I'll illustrate the comparison in the second photo. The wheels are a nice feature and work well. It is not too noisy on hardwood floors.
It is three hours old and I have destroyed a six tall stack of papers and receipts. Photographs show how small the shred waste is. I can listen to music while shredding, the shredder noise level is high enough. A great feature is the shredder waste is completely enclosed, eliminating small paper shreds on the floor when removing the basket. It already has wheels that slide under the desk when it is not in use. The speed is slower than my older Fellowes shredder, however the features I mentioned earlier far outweigh the speed.
This is the perfect decision, I spend a long time researching shredders. It shreds into small confetti pieces. It can handle ten pages at a time and shred staples without issue. It can handle heavy shredding and runs continuously without overheating. I would definitely recommend it.
WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
When my old shredder broke down, I had to shred a number of tax returns and other documents. It would often shut down on its own because of the limited runtime. This product can go for up to an hour of constant shredding before it shuts down and it actually never shut down because I took a break of my own about halfway through the project. The shreds are small rectangular pieces that would be impossible to reconstruct especially if you have an entire trash bag filled with them. I do not have a concern about the size compared to the micro shredders that are more expensive and not worth it in my opinion. The seven gallon bin is much bigger than my former shredder and results in very few trips to the trash can. I disagree with the reviewer. He complained that when emptying, he saw shreds on the floor. Most bins will leave a few. I have had none in many emptyings of the bin. With this shredder, the bin rolls out from the rest of the shredder, and then you can cleanly empty it into a garbage can or garbage junk. I have been able to use twenty sheets at one time. I have looked to max it out at about twenty, or you risk getting it worn out faster by overloading it. It did not jam during a few hours of constant shredding which for me is a record.
I love how easy it is to empty. It has an auto button, or you can just leave it on. I was frustrated because my old shredder was only able to read a few pages at a time and I had to constantly dump it. A family of five have destroyed all of the junk mail that continues to come in. It has been great. There has not been a jam yet.
It does the job quickly and quietly. The wheels are very smooth and glide around in a satisfying way. The bend hold many pages of paper and slides out smooth and satisfyingly. I have zero complaints.
This was an excellent purchase. It easily shreds three large boxes of old documents and junk mail. I would recommend getting some oil for occasional grease up the blades for easier and quieter shredding.
I did not experience a single jam. I completed the equivalent of a large four drawer file cabinet.
WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
I had an Aurora shredder before, which eventually malfunctioned after many years. It shreds long strips that were not very good for security but this new one literally pulverized the paper to confetti or smaller. I had to shred huge amounts of old documents I had saved. Within a few days, I was shredding an hour each day. I enjoyed the pull out basket that came out of the basket, and the fact that a light came on to inform you when the basket was full. If I keep within the limits and do not shred for a long time there are alarm lights for jams and overheating. I am not willing to lose a high quality job until I become negligent again. I think this shredder will endure the rest of my life. It was packed very well. Thank you for a great product and I would like to thank the vendor.
This will cut through 18 sheets with ease. This is the shredder that I wanted at a reasonable price. It is quieter than the 8 sheet Amazon Basics shredder it replaced, but I did not expect a quiet shredder at this price range. The bin slides easily, and being longer on one side of the bin lets you dump it into a trash bag with good control.
We had already spent a shredder a few years ago. We had a backlog of old vital records that needed shredding, now that it is done. The machine was very easy to clean and lubricate. Upon a recommendation, I used a synthetic, nonflammable spray lube. It's sight glass is in the side of the trash. It is very convenient, easy to look through, and much appreciated. When it reaches a capacity, a sensor detects that, and destroys it for you. What destroyed the old one was not knowing about all the above needs. This one is sharper and stronger than the others. Its feed in slot appears to be intuitive in design, so feeding it requires less effort than the old one we had. It is possible that the grinder should be run forward before emptying its teeth. It will prevent it from dropping loose pieces when you are taking it out of the bin. Pulling the bin removes power from the motor. A nice comforting safety feature that might address future absentmindedness.
It reads, 'I shred everything including names and addresses, and junk mail. I was pleased with this shredder. It rips into small pieces with the flip of the top switch. It has a reverse feature, and the best thing about it is that it is quiet. Bin just pulls out for easy disposal and cleaning.
This is the third shredder I've ever owned. I thought it was an important upgrade when it died and I replaced it with a $70 machine. The shredder sat atop a small plastic wastebasket. In order to empty the basket, which was quite frequently, you had to actually lift the shredder off and set it aside. It may not seem like much, but it was heavy, and paper shreds would fall out and make a mess. It fumbled to shred even a half dozen pieces of paper at a time, and the noise it made was awful. When it finally dies during an extended shredding session, I decided I was not going to make that mistake again. It is one of the reasons I was willing to spend nearly three times as much for this machine. What does this shredder offer me? I'm quite happy shredding half of it at a time knowing that it is merely cruising along because it is rated at twenty sheets. The system is quieter than previous machines. It does make a bit of noise, but it is not bad. I can easily carry a conversation and shred at the same time. It slides into place very smoothly. It is on wheels, so it turns and can be pulled out easily, if I need to. I have one level more of security than my previous one. You need to visit a commercial machine, because the higher cost will result in higher results. I did not need that, and this was within my budget. The opening is designed so as to prevent fingers accidentally slipping into the cutters. Once you have completed some paperwork you will have learned the angle of the paper and it will fall seamlessly into place. The opening has a safety feature so that one's hand does not shred while it is on one side. It is probably not necessary, but it is nice to know. Credit cards and CD's can be shredn simply through an opening allowing an accessible path to pass through. I always had to cut them up hand with scissors, so I am looking forward to this feature. Of course, it has all of the standard features that you would expect such as overload protection, manual reset buttons (forward and reverse), and bin full and door open sensing. You can turn it on and off manually. If you left it sit after shredding it will automatically shut down to a very low power state. If you feed some paper into it it wakes up and shreds without having to press a button. If I had to find something that I did not like, it would be that it is difficult to shred small pieces of paper. I keep a cube of loose 3.5 x 3.5 inch sheets (nothing with gummed edges like Postits) that I like to use for quick notes. When I attempt to shred these, they are not long enough to get into the portion of the machine that senses the paper and grabs it to feed the machine. It was a minor inconvenience. I could possibly process this further on other papers. I was concerned about how this would handle shipping. I need not be concerned. It was well protected with the large Styrofoam bumpers on all corners. The box has straps on the outside to help keep it intact in case of rough handling. It arrived in perfect condition. I am anticipating that this shredder may very well last the remainder of my working life. I would be extremely happy if it was the last shredder I purchase. Follow the instructions for running a bead of oil across the opening after every full basket. Maintenance is important to keep them in tip top condition.
WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
It is the best shredder I have ever used. After closing a business that had been in operation for years, and shipping my mom off to Florida, I had an overwhelming amount of paperwork to go through. I was able to use leaf bags, compress them, and add more. I filled about ten leaf bags with shredded paper, about 250 gallons worth. Although a little vegetable oil needs to be used to lubricate it occasionally, it never skipped a beat. The experience exceeded my expectations. The paper is gone and a beautiful shredder is at my desk.
The problem was resolved within one to three days. Because I was unresponsive to the new version, and after reading the reviews on the older version, I was frightened to simply replace the new version with the older one, which Amazon would have kindly done for me. I purchased a Aurora AU1275MA Professional Grade 12-Sheet Micro Cut Paper, CD and Credit Card Shredder. The full model is named because I noticed reviews can be under different models from the same manufacturer if you do not set the filter correctly. Please do not confuse this model with Aurora A1210MA Professional Grade, High Security twelve sheets of micro cut paper, CD, and credit card, and 60 minutes continuous run time. I am very satisfied with this unit. It has not been trouble free, but rather somewhat quieter than our older unit. My only suggestion to users is to open the shredded paper bin as it fills up to try and seal it down. The micro cuts build up with a lot of air. I did not do it, initially it seemed to fill up quickly, but now it is fine and I get plenty of capacity from the bin. As I stated in the Shredder review banner, I highly recommend it.
Amazon recommended it which is ideal for the clearing up of old documents. That is practical, and compared to other alternatives.
I really enjoyed this shredder and have purchased more to shred than I had requested. It is never overheated. I have shredded eight thirty gallon bags with it so far.
It fits perfectly under my desk.
WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
I was enthusiastic about this shredder because I have a pile of work documents cluttering my apartment. My personal shredder was an issue when I began working from home, so this option was an appealing option. Unfortunately, the LED light came on immediately after I opened this device and connected it. After inspecting the blades, plugging, unplugging, and adjusting the sensor position with a qtip nothing. Safety features render this machine inoperable until the light goes off. The bin is empty. The manual is vague and poor. I will be calling customer support in the morning. I will have to return this item if nothing works. This is a great start to my week. I received a new shredder even before the original was returned. It is much better then my old one. I will update you if it fails again, but for now I am satisfied with the replacement.
The computer is so brilliant. It is very strong and quiet. The slot to put paper in is very thin so you do not have to worry about anything else dropping in. You could put a garbage can liner in the catcher drawer. It makes emptying the items very simple. The system turns tiny squares of paper into. The rollers work great. It is a strong machine. I do not discard junk mail. I got the whole house shredded in less than an hour and it was better packaged than any other item I've purchased in years. The strength of the boxing, the cushioning for it in the box, the wrapping, the tapping of the drawer, everything so that it was protected during shipping, is the extreme of perfection Thank you for sharing this wonderful experience.
It is easy to empty and you know how important that is. It does not happily take as many sheets as advertised, but it runs forever without over heating.
It sits nicely on the white wall. The manufacturer was very easy to reach. It eats paper, as described. Very pleased with this purchase.
Although it is a little costly, I was willing to pay more for something that had good reviews. This method seems to work very well. I have only filled up the bin two times, but it worked well on power, jam clearing, and auto operation.
WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
Time will tell of longevity. Comes with a five year cutting head warranty and one month of use. The boxes are a bit less cluttered than most competitors thus you can have more security while less garbage is left. Plastics are a major cause of failure because they deeply clog up the cutting heads leading to early failure. 4) They suggest light vegetable oil for lubricant. I have heard other people say that you should never lubricate. I am thinking that oils may cause more harm than good because they gnaw on paper and prevent clean cutting and may actually cause cutting head clogging. I am trying to use nolubricating. 5) Clear bin shows how full it is, and it automatically stops when it is full. I have had three units similar to this for the last twenty years. One is operating shredders while bins are full and another is cutting head clogging and failure. It is not uncommon to use a scissor in rare events. Paper shredders are primarily made for paper. Only time will tell how long this unit lasts. You need to use common sense. Do not push it to its limits. I would like to give you a last design thought. This unit has an unusual top feed running front to back. The result is a tighter, but deeper unit profile. The potential negative is that you are unable to expect to use this item if you desire to place it on a book shelf or wire rack. You will not be able to access the paper shredder slot. I love the unit so far it's on the floor, but not stacked over it. Best of luck in selecting.
This shredder is fantastic I use that item in my home office. An older cutter that cut long sheets of paper did not require any maintenance to permit someone to read the material. Although it is slower than the previous shredder, that is understandable when you consider the extra cutting it is doing. Obviously, I am very pleased with my purchase. I believe that is an example of where you get what you pay for. It costs more, but it is greater and better.
I was skeptical about the shredders on Amazon, but this one is above the others. It helps to rip the paper, CDs, and credit cards, instead of shredding them into long pieces. I have found spraying a piece of paper with oil from an aerosol to keep the blades oiled also helps wonders.
I did not notice it stall after I attempted it. I found it to be quiet. It requires approximately ten minutes of constant shredding. Bin full is around five gallons.
I have had an fairly decent Fellowes shredder that was similar to this one for over fifteen years. It has the same capacity as the standard 13 page book, however it is in a smaller bin. My old shredder still works, but it makes all sorts of noises and can not shred even ten pages reliably, without sounding like it is going to fall apart. I placed a standard 13 gallon tall trash bag in the bin and began shredding. Yes, I became tired of shredding before the machine ever stopped working on me. I did not find it appealing because it received a 20 page sheet of paper with twenty and twentytwo pounds of paper, plus staples. This is a lot exceeding its stated capacity. I did not try to put paper clips in it. The only negative attribute of shredding CDs was the fact that the machine spews a tiny amount of reflective paint from the feed slot that requires vacuuming. If you empty the bin in the drawer you will find some pieces of shredded paper falling out as you remove the shredder. The top of the 13 gallon trash bag fits into slots cut into the top of the bin to hold the bag up. Suggest you place the bag in sideways, to what you might think is the initial/logical way of fitting it into the bin. This will allow the bottom of the bag to expand to the front of the bin as it fills. You should see it to understand the meaning I am giving. If you purchase slightly larger bags you will fit a little more shredded material but maybe only another half a gallon. It's a heavy duty shredder that can handle thousands of pages with ease. It's easily shreds CDs and credit cards. It is heavy, but that is why you are buying it, so that you can handle almost anything you want shredded.
WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
I am disappointed because I waited so long to purchase this shredder. I have tried many treatments, prescriptions and anecdote, yet they all fail due to my emotional attachment to it for the past year. I began my search for a shredder that was working. How do you replace such an integral part of the family, who's only shortcomings were age and abuse related? I persisted through the enormous task of perusing the hundreds of shredders listed with their various attributes and shortcomings. I was unable to do so. In an effort to resuscite our shredder, I purchased some lubricant sheets. Unfortunately these were not the miracle drugs our shredder needed though they did seem to improve her performance slightly. I am remorseful and full of guilt because I lack of shredder longevity skills I just took a leap of faith and ordered an Aurora 1410Ma Shredder. I have read her operator's manual, so I could not make the same mistakes I made with her predecessor. However in reality, her obvious and convenient controls are easy enough to navigate, so our cat could do the shredding if necessary. She is in all her glory in the middle of our guest room, waiting to devour the litany of personal information we constantly need destroyed. I would sneak piles of credit card offers and random documents into the guest room for shredding as the weeks passed. Besides feeding the old shredder a sheet or two in between. Aurora is so quiet, I never worried about the old shredder hearing her. A day passed that I thought would be the final test. A replacement credit card arrived in the mail Upon activating the new card and declaring the old one inactive I had arrived. I carried the dead credit card into the guest room, and stood in front of Aurora. Our old shredder never had the ability to shred a card, so this was a new experience and I was pensive about trying it. I could hear the growling of our old shredder echoing in my mind. I finally decided to go ahead. He dropped the dead card into the slot... Quietly Aurora chewed it up and swallowed it like it was a walk in the park. I am positive that she licked her lips afterwards. The decision has been made that Aurora would remain. She surpassed many expectations, and was able to achieve them. I hugged her and we headed to our home office to collect our old shredder. I exclaimed to her about the thousands and thousands of successful items she accumulated as I drove her to the recycling center. I sat there for a few minutes extolling all of her virtues to her and how much we appreciated her service one last time. I removed her from the car, gently laid her atop a pile of other recently departed electronics with a lump in my throat I gave her a soft little pat and whispered my final farewell before turning away and heading home. Aurora felt my deepest sadness when I rolled her to her new location in the office. Once I began feeding her the large stack of papers, she devoured it all while purring softly. Quickly, she was full, and I was amazed by her removable bin. It worked flawlessly and the contents were shredded more efficiently than any I have ever seen. I gave her a gentle pat and smiled as I replaced her empty bin. Yes, the healing had begun, and Aurora's acceptance is complete. We have been pleasantly surprised by her quiet strength and she does everything stated in her listing. At this time the family will be happily shredding again.
That was better than I thought. It is a good value for money, because it includes everything you need for a reasonable price. I would have spent more money on a model similar to Fellows. This solid, well constructed, heavy and very quiet. I did not break off because the wheels make it easy to move it around. I am very happy with the product. I received a parcel in a quick, well packaged and in excellent condition.
I was reluctant at first in buying this, because I have never bought anything from Aurora. I have been happy so far, especially with the quietness of a shredder. It makes my fellows one look like a dinosaur. It has handled tasks so far without any drag on the unit. I did try it. I shred items weekly, so it should be able to meet the task. It is smaller than my previous one, and that is fine. The smaller wheels make it better, and provide more mobility if needed.
It exceeded my expectations. He is quiet as a mouse, but he chomps up big mouthfuls. I highly recommend this unit. I am here to buy a new one. The one I bought 18 months ago did not meet my standards today. I probably attempted to shred too much at once and that was my fault. I pay 25 cents per day to have one of the best shredders on the market. I have used it often, for the last 18 months. I am very much in agreement, but I would like it to have lasted longer. I enjoy it, so much, that as soon as I am able to complete typing this, I will purchase a new one for myself. I highly recommend this model. Additionally, there are conflicting answers to the question, What is the warranty? It is in the manual that comes with it. They warrant the cycle of cutting for five to five years. The product is warranted against defects in workmanship and material for one year from original purchase to the original consumer.
WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
I got this type of shredder because my fianc has it. He has something similar to the A820MA. He enjoys that and I considered getting the same one as him because his is a micro cut as well. It is cheaper. I have this because it is in white. It looks great. The bonus is that it is on wheels, quiet, and the front door is opening. The shredder head is very heavy and is difficult to lift and take out. I have not attempted to shred credit or paper with staplers and I do not intend to do so. I can not comment on that. I purchased this primarily for aesthetics.
I purchased this shredder because of its price but I did not have any expectations regarding the performance. Luckily, this shredder has exceeded my expectations. The shredder is quiet, handles multiple pages with ease, and is capable of continuous use of up thirty minutes as advertised. Will this shredder last for a certain period of time? Time will tell but, for the moment, this shredder is a clear winner.
I can't attest to how much you could shred the entire package because I never packed it full of papers at once. I usually infuse three or four pieces at the same time. I like that it is quieter than normal shredders. It looks nice when it's white. I really like the pull out drawer, it's so convenient to remove the heavy top and empty. It is not as large as the ones from the office, so I have to empty sometimes a little frequently, but I do not usually have so much shredding at once. I am cleaning out quite a bit, and the capacity will be stable. I love to cut thin objects. I found something like that while searching for it.
WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
This product produced nearly 700 sheets of paper in two days. It will shut down from time to time and work very hard when you feed more than three or four sheets. You will shred very if you keep it to a couple sheets at a time. It worked great for us, we just stopped for 10-15 minutes at a time. This is a homeowners shredder. I am not sure how it would perform in a business unless it had occasional use. This is not a heavy duty industrial machine. It is very wellmade, but it is very heavy, however that is not a big deal. If you would like to work on your unit then you should buy something small, such as gun oil. It is preferable if the neck is longer and the canola oil cooking oil is in it. You will run the oil across the blades to help fill the paper. You will find that it will shred even the letters and numbers and that you will be very pleased with your purchase.
I have had mail inboxes around for this particular reason, as I have been shopping for a shredder for about a year and a half. Walmart has one for twice the price but I was not really interested in spending $60, let alone $80, or even $120 for a shredder. It was part of an advertisement I found while shopping. I believe that this item had already been viewed when I searched Amazon.com for a shredder. It arrived within one week of ordering, and shredded approximately three gallons of paper. I have already received many spam emails. I love to shred random papers. If I were able to make a living doing it, I would. I understand that there are companies out there that specialize in discarding confidential documents. I thought this shredder would be much louder than it is. I thought that this was going to hurt my eardrums, but it is perfect. It is definitely running, however it is not overly loud. This shredder was sent from the Universe above and has answered my prayers for a trash eating demon. I love this shredder, but I wanted to give you an update, as I have not used it more than four minutes continuously. I do not intend to have this shredder plugged in when I am not in use. I do love this item now, but that doesn't mean I will not in three weeks. We must wait until that time for the answer.
I replaced a Staples crosscut 8 sheet shredder that lasted eight years and worked very well. I really like the Aurora A608. It is quieter than the Staples model. It is micro and not cross cut, so the pieces are cut much smaller. I have read some of the reviews of used shredders received. Also, fire issues. It says that each machine is tested prior to shipment and that there may be a few pieces of shredded paper when it arrives. This is not a concern for me. The instruction pamphlet states that the user is to turn off and unplug the shredder when not in use - thus fire does not seem to be an issue for me as I do that. I never reach the maximum pages it can handle on any shredder. I also adhere to the shredding time limit. I am very pleased with this shredder.
It is a nice micro cut shredder. The size is appropriate for personal use. It cuts up to six sheets at a time, and makes very little noise. Also, shreds credit cards. It is expected that there is a little dust in there. It is perfect for shredding old files, school papers, utility receipts, and any other sensitive personal information. I really love the paper that comes with confetti cut out of it.
WHAT WE LIKED MOST:
The shredder worked as advertised and handled different media such as CDs and DVDs. The cross cut is the best part. The bin is mounted on wheels that open easily. It was a bit of a challenge to get out of the box when I have arthritis. I could have had stooped further, but I was able to achieve this by sitting and operating the machine.
I had approximately ten years worth of tax documents and other things that I needed to get rid of. So, I purchased this paper shredder. I shredded nine bags of trash in four days. This shredder is extremely good, however the motor is hot after being used for an hour, without stopping. The noise level is the same as you would expect from a shredder although my boyfriend thought it was very obnoxious because I was using it for approximately two hours each night for four nights. I like the large container.
I like that it is a crosscut shredder, so I use small shredded pieces instead of strips. It can easily be cut into old credit cards and multiple sheets of paper. Mine was up to fourteen pages at one time, but I rarely go over twelve pages at one time just so that I can be certain. It can be difficult to remove shredded paper from a trash bag, but I usually use two to three strips of tape to attach it to the inside. I highly recommend the shredder.
I purchased an impressive 16 paper shredder for $108 plus taxes. CDs, and credit cards can cause a shredder to slow down. It cuts silicon and plastic into tiny pieces with medium noise in seconds. It is very efficient when shredding paper. Keep it to eight sheets for quick results. Use the shredder for no more than ten minutes. Ensure that the blades remain sharp with lubricant on paper or oil. To empty your shredder basket, turn it off and lift the shredder head up. It's heavy, it seems. Place the shredder's head on the box. You would take a plastic bag, place it over the basket, lift it, and empty the contents into the bag. The shredder head is back on top of the shredder.
I had about 10,000 sheets of paper to shred. My kids helped me sort through the sheets while the kids shred the papers. We did it for approximately two hours. The shredder is working well and never stops. We shred only five sheets at a time, but the breaks between sorting and emptying the bin were enough to keep it from overheating. The large bin is a nice feature. Smaller shredders will fill up after only a hundred pages. It will take between 300 and 400 pages before the bin has to be filled.
