A Small Orange is a web host that was founded in Atlanta in 2003. Its name does not sound like a hosting company. Still, when I checked its page, I found out that it offers standard web hosting services like shared hosting, cloud VPS plans, reseller packages, dedicated server hosting, business hosting, and site builder.
As I scan their page, it's not just the name of the web hosting company that caught my attention but also some of their unique offers. For starters, they give a 90-day money-back guarantee to new customers, which means that you can get a refund if you choose to cancel within 90 days from sign-up. Most web hosts only offer 30-days, while others do not even offer such privilege. If the user wants to cancel after 90 days, they can still receive a pro-rated refund for the months unused. A unique offer indeed in the web hosting community.
Another thing that I admire as I scan their page is their 10% ongoing discount or a free small plan on a monthly billing cycle for qualifying non-profits and charities. This is extremely a nice gesture, especially to those doing extra miles to improve our community.
A Small Orange homepage is quite refreshing to the eyes. It is clean, simple, and easy to navigate. I particularly like the part where they help you find your perfect web hosting by answering some questions.
I got the recommendation for Small Shared hosting, so this is what I tried. It is on sale for only $8 per month and comes with 5GB storage, 50 GB bandwidth, unlimited domains, and 24/7 email and chat customer support. This plan is ideal if you are only starting to create an online presence. You can check out A Small Orange plans and their full features in the Buyer's Guide below.
After clicking the Buy Now button, I was redirected to the domain registration page. I have the option to register a new domain, transfer your domain from another registrar, or use your existing domain.
For this review, I registered a new domain name. The domain name from A Small Orange is free for a year for the annual billing cycles only. The next step required me to configure my shared hosting plan. I have the option to include the following add-ons: Codeguard Backup, Simple and Wildcard SSL certificate, IP Protection, and Google Adword Credit.
I included the certificate for a one-time payment of $39.95 and Google Adword Credit for free.
The next step is the Review and Checkout page. If you have a promo code from A Small Orange, you can get a discount. Once I was satisfied with my order, I clicked Checkout to proceed to the next step of the sign-up process.
For the Checkout page, I filled out forms on personal information, billing address, VAT information, domain registrant information, and account security. Payment can be through a credit card or PayPal. All plans automatically renew for the same plan and billing cycle, but the prices will be regular.
Once payment my payment was confirmed, I was brought to my A Small Orange Client's Area. You have to check your registered email address to verify your A Small Orange hosting account. This email also includes the instructions on logging in to your Client Area and your cPanel account.
A Small Orange Client Area is quite a simple and user-friendly dashboard. All features are grouped nicely by tabs and boxes. Opening your client area shows you the default page, which is the home tab.
