Notes is a browser extension that gives you a full markdown note-taking workspace right in your browser's side panel. Write in markdown, organize with folders and tags, search instantly, and sync across devices. A built-in AI assistant (Serpy) can draft, summarize, expand, rewrite, or generate notes from natural language instructions, and voice transcription lets you dictate hands-free. Share any note as a live link — or export to Markdown, Word, HTML, PDF, or plain text.

FAQ

How do I open the notes workspace?

Press Ctrl+Shift+Y to open the side panel, or click the Notes icon in your browser toolbar. The full workspace opens alongside your current page.

Can I use this alongside any website?

Yes. The side panel works on any page. You can also right-click selected text on any page to save it as a note.

Where are my notes stored?

Notes are stored locally in your browser first (offline-first). When you are online, they sync to the cloud so you can access them across devices.

What is Serpy?

Serpy is the built-in AI assistant. Type a natural language instruction (like 'summarize this,' 'make this more concise,' or 'create meeting notes') and Serpy will edit or generate content in your note.

How does voice transcription work?

Click and hold the microphone button in the Serpy bar. Speak your note, then release. Serpy transcribes the audio and inserts the text into your note. Maximum recording is 25 seconds.

Can I share a note with someone?

Yes. Click 'Share live' in the note footer. This generates a public link at notes.serp.co that shows the latest version of your note. You can also create a frozen snapshot.

What export formats are supported?

Markdown (.md), Plain Text (.txt), Word (.docx), HTML (.html), and PDF (.pdf). You can also export your entire workspace as a JSON backup.

Does this work offline?

Yes. Notes is offline-first. All notes are saved locally and sync to the cloud when connectivity returns. The editor, search, and export features all work without internet.

What are wiki links?

Type [[ followed by a note title to create a link between notes. The backlinks panel shows which notes link to the current one.

Does this work on Firefox?

Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Opera are fully supported. Firefox support depends on side panel API availability.
